Hi all, hoping to see if anyone has experienced something similar.

We’ve had a tough week with our Vizsla, Tomato. His behavior changed very suddenly on Monday. Before, he was active, happy, and playful (with some anxiety). Now he feels like a different dog.

He’s much lower energy at home and outside, spends most of his time in his bed, and really dislikes going outside. When we do get him out, he walks very reserved with his tail between his legs and seems extremely anxious, like he’s just going through the motions.

He’s lost interest in things he used to love like sniffing, chasing squirrels, playing, and running. Sometimes he’ll go to the park briefly, other times he pulls to go straight home, even though we used to spend a lot of time there. He’s also ignoring treats.

At home, he mostly lays around and won’t play. We occasionally see glimpses of his normal self, but much more subdued.

We’ve been working closely with the vet and haven’t found anything conclusive. So far:

Exams at regular vet and BluePearl

Bloodwork normal

No clear signs of pain

Tried anti-inflammatories, gland expression, gabapentin, trazodone

Starting Zyrtec (in case his seasonal allergies are making him act this way)

This started the morning after giving him Benadryl, but it should be out of his system by now and the vets don’t think it’s related since it’s been several days.

Has anyone seen something like this, sudden anxiety and lethargy with no clear cause?
