[NYC] was forced to pay parking violation twice and worried this problem is still not taken care of.
I paid a parking violation of $35.00 due to insufficient taillights.
I also might have had to send proof that I fixed the problem to NY DOF. Unfortunately, I did not yet do that. I thought I had more time. I have the invoice that proved I fixed the problem.
Now, I am in receipt of a letter that demanded immediate payment of $98, nearly a tripling of the old $35 I ALREADY PAID, and I had no choice but to pay it immediately as I misread the letter when it first arrived and did not see the part.
The same ticket number appeared, so it's literally the same matter. I'm now out $35 for the initial penalty, out $98 for this unannounced surprise penalty, and out $200 from the repair at a vehicle repair shop.
The reason I paid the $98 again is because the letter actually threatened driver license cancellation and conviction as if I ignored the first pre-penalty notice asking for $35 when I didn't. I had no choice but to minimize my damage by paying it, but now, I want to use this envelope addressed to DOF to try and close this matter for good. Do I still need to send the vehicle repair invoice that shows the problem was fixed? Can I get my $98 I was extorted into paying back with this letter that demanded I plead a certain way or pay on a date prior to having received it? I could not plead Not Guilty, because I was worried that by leaving the matter open like this, I'd be past the deadline and could suffer the conviction and license revocation.
It's messed up we have to mail DOF all these fixes and hope they process it when DOF engages in serious unavoidable tax scams and abuse against property owners. Is there no way for me to send in my vehicle fix online?
