Lots of tiny black crystals in quartz and other type of rock
I found this in Greer, SC just north of US29 and near SC14.
It is half Quartz and something else that Im not sure of with tiny black crystals on the ends of the rock. The same black crystals are in the two dark bands that run through the stone between the two kinds of rock. The Quartz is typical of rocks I have found in Spartanburg County, and around the same area of Greenville County where I found this one. A few other rocks I found have some black specks, but nothing like this one. in the pics I tried to magnify it for identification.
I think the black crystals are tourmaline, since that is found in the Upstate of SC in Quartz, but I am not entirely sure. Im confident its not garnet like I have found in other upstate locations.
I would love to know what this is.
thanks!
