Does anyone else think early Muse is good at least?
I think everything theyve done from The Resistance onwards is mid to awful. But Absolution, Black Holes, and Origin of Symmetry are bangers! Very different style of music from Radiohead, of course. But I like the bombast and drama of it all while keeping a strong melodic core.
I especially like Plug-In Baby, Map of the Problematic, Apocalypse Please, Soldier’s Poem, and Take a Bow (the climax at least is insane).
I feel like they’re over-hated. Bellamy does sound like Thom in his upper register, but I view that as a good thing — at least, it’s what got me hooked as a teenager. I think overall though Bellamy strikes me as having a more powerful voice throughout his entire range, which is pretty cool.
What do you think? Do you like early Muse? I encourage people to hear the three albums I mentioned, at least Absolution and Black Holes. Don’t miss out on Plug-In Baby though!
