Going into college and trying to stay immune to my cat allergy.

Hi! I only recently made an account on here, so I’m not sure this is the right place for my question, but I’m going into college this year and I’m worried about coming back home and not being able to stand my cats. I’ve had cats all my life, which I think has kept my cat allergy at bay pretty well. I still do get itchy eyes and a stuffy nose from my cat’s hair, but it’s manageable and mild. But now that I’ll be away at college for most of the next four years and not constantly around my cats, I’m a little worried that I’ll lose whatever I’ve built up against my allergy. Does anybody have any idea how I can try to keep my cat allergy mild? All I can come up with is volunteering at a cat shelter, which I might not have time for. Thank you!
