Am I being too paranoid?
I’m supposed to be speaking at a conference in Mexico City in a couple of weeks but feel like I’m on the cusp of a flare, or already flaring, for the first time in years. It’s mostly low grade abdominal pain, bloating, and super loose stools. I’m waiting to get lab results back to get my doctor’s recommendation but I’ve already decided to cancel the trip because I’m so terrified of getting a stomach virus while I’m there. I’ve never been to the city and have wanted to go for years, not to mention the travel is paid for by my company, but I’m really worried it could push me towards a worse flare is something goes wrong with what I’m eating/drinking. I’m already on a strict GF/DF diet prescribed my doctor while we wait to see if there is any inflammation reflected in the lab results.
Am I being too anxious/paranoid? Obviously the health anxiety itself is not helpful. Do other folks feel like they have to be this cautious when feeling a flare coming on? I’ve been fortunate to have been in remission for the last 9 years and now I’m wondering if it’s all unraveling. I’m not currently on any biologics or regular UC meds.
Some support or advice would be much appreciated . Also I know I’m in a position of privilege to have been symptom free for so long, and I’m feeling for those that are really in the thick of it. I think a lot of this stems from my fear of being hospitalized from UC again. Sending healthy vibes to everyone ❤️🩹
