is this dumb

 19f just got the opportunity to hitch a ride from Tennessee to California. The person driving also said they can drop me off anywhere I want to would it be crazy if I were to sell my car for a bit of money, and to go. I have nothing holding me here and I think it would be a fun adventure. The money I make from selling my car would be all the money I have (around 5k). any recommendations on where to go? I'm not opposed to staying in hostels to figure out my living situation. But if I do go, I know I will need to get a job to be able to afford to live, and if not, I'm kind of screwed cause I won't have a car or any money to get back home. Am I crazy?
