How to use Discord voice chat on PS5?

A lot of people say that Discord integration on PS5 was supposed to make cross-platform gaming way smoother, especially for those of us playing with friends on PC or Xbox. On paper, it sounds perfect—no more juggling between devices just to talk.

But in practice, I feel like I’m either misunderstanding how it’s supposed to work or just making it way more complicated than it needs to be.

I recently tried setting it up so I could chat with my friends while playing on PS5, and I ran into a few issues. I linked my Discord account, transferred the voice chat from my phone, and it worked… but the whole process feels clunky. Like, why do I need my phone every time just to join a voice channel? And sometimes the connection randomly drops or doesn’t transfer properly.

I was expecting something more native—like just joining directly from the PS5 without extra steps.

Maybe I’m doing it wrong, or maybe this is just how it is right now?

For those of you who use Discord voice chat on PS5 regularly:

  • Is there a smoother way to join voice chats without relying on your phone every time?
  • Have you found any tricks to make it more reliable?
  • Or do you just stick to party chat / other workarounds instead?

Would appreciate any tips or even just confirmation that I’m not the only one finding this a bit awkward
