📢 This announcement is flooding my feed today but let's not get toooo excited just yet...

Everyone seems to assume that all of the 'B2B On Shopify' features are coming to all plans.

They're not.

Quoting directly from Shopify:

"Key B2B features now available on non-Plus plans

Merchants on Basic, Grow, and Advanced plans can start selling wholesale using native B2B features, available in their admin.

This includes up to 3 active B2B catalogs (assigned via Markets), company profiles, payment terms, volume pricing, ACH payments (U.S. only), and vaulted credit cards.

These features are available to use at no additional cost.

Unlimited catalogs for customer-specific pricing, direct catalog assignment to companies and locations, partial payments, and deposits remain exclusive to Plus."

🧩 So let's break it down...

Previously, "B2B on Shopify" was a suite reserved exclusively for Shopify Plus (starting at $2,300/mo).

With this update, Shopify is competing more directly with many popular Shopify wholesale apps by moving these core features into the standard admin and subscription plans.

While the ENGINE for B2B is now open to everyone, the flexibility of that engine is STILL heavily throttled on the non-Plus plans.

🚫 The 3-catalog limit is the biggest barrier, designed to keep high-volume or complex wholesalers on the Shopify Plus plan.

On non-Plus, your B2B setup effectively looks like this:

You can ONLY have 3 active B2B catalogs across ALL your Markets.

Because you must assign these catalogs via Shopify Markets, you cannot easily give "Company A" one price and "Company B" another price if you have more than three unique pricing tiers.

Plus users have unlimited catalogs and can assign them directly to a Company Location.

This means a Plus merchant can have 500 different customers, each with their own unique negotiated price list - as is common in B2B!

🧢 Beyond the catalog cap, there are a few other limitations for standard plans:

🤕 No Direct Assignment: You have to use the "Markets" workaround rather than just clicking a customer and hitting "Assign Catalog."

🙅🏻‍♀️ No Partial Payments/Deposits: You can't ask for 50% upfront at checkout; it’s either "Pay Now" or "Net Terms (Pay Later)."

✋ No ACH for non-U.S.: While native B2B now supports ACH, it remains geo-locked for standard plans.

So before you come at me and say "see Jason, Shopify does B2B now" - hold your horses and consider if this actually makes much of a practical difference for MOST B2B merchants (current or aspiring) or if it's more symbolic than anything else...
