GD creating sphere feels like a cult...(The Waboo Skeletal ex situation...)

Discussion

I'll say it now : the level is FAR FROM flawless. I have problems with certain choices (the crystal bossfight is meh imo) and the concept of the original level, which seems to have been somewhat lost. Also, the loot box system in a community primarily composed of people between 12 and 18 years old is immoral.

But the criticisms of the level point to something that affects not only GD but all "art-based" communities: something that is counterproductive and dishonest but is not only apply for waboo but cheryteam and other "corp" creators...

And I will ask a question to pro art people ?

What is art ?

If you tell me that it's an expression of passion, soul, human experiences, etc., and that what is motivated by money/profit isn't art, sorry, but that's subjective...

If we go by what art is, it's simply the act of creating from something...that's all, and I can say that it's objective because all creations follow this process of creating from something, but that's not even my main argument...

Art is a vast universe whose limits no one knows, but it is also a universe where divergent visions constitute the beauty of this discipline, and no one is qualified to tell someone to have a certain approach, a certain motivation, etc... on the contrary, we need as many visions as possible, even if they are unpopular.

My main problem is that you talk about soul and passion to judge a level, and people present it as an objective criterion, which is for me elitism and disadvantages those levels that don't have this approach (Skeletal ex, Cheryteam levels ect...)

For example, let's take cinema. We tend to criticize the big corporations that produce films for certain profiles, but firstly, their work matters to someone, and secondly, without some of their licenses, cinema wouldn't be what we know today: a rich universe.

But today, with the fear surrounding AI and the panic surrounding the quality of artworks, we tend to overthink art and impose rigid standards that, in my opinion, are counterproductive. I believe that a level or any form of art shouldn't be judged based on subjective feelings that are more related to you than to the level itself, or on your passionate interpretation of a level, but rather on what the level actually is...

By doing that, you're unfairly judging visions that aren't your own, and you're ruining what makes art such a beautiful discipline: a space where all visions meet around a single activity. But instead, we overthink and take the game seriously. I'd even go so far as to say we've reached an almost cult-like level. Let's not forget that this is a $4 cube game and that we started the whole publisher because we just wanted to create the cool stuff that popped into our heads.

Ask me questions if this post is too confusing (I want improving at express myself well) Sorry for my spelling I'm not a native English speaker :/
