Epic Armor Boosts in Vanilla

I'm trying to find out how to install Epic Armor Boosts in Vanilla Empyrion. Regardless of armor type, no matter the number of slots, etc. I'm unable to install epic variety armor boosts on any armor I place in there, being it light/medium/heavy. Are they glitched or am I not seeing something?
