Why does my PS5 controller not charge in Rest Mode?
From what I’ve read, the PS5 is supposed to keep supplying power to USB ports in Rest Mode so controllers can charge while the console is “off.” It’s one of those small but super convenient features that saves you from having to think about battery life before your next session.
But lately, it doesn’t seem to be working that way for me.
I’ve noticed that when I leave my controller plugged in and put the PS5 into Rest Mode, it sometimes just… doesn’t charge. I’ll come back later expecting a full battery, and it’s either barely charged or completely dead. What’s weird is that it does charge normally when the console is fully on.
I’ve tried different cables and even switching USB ports, but the issue still happens inconsistently. It’s not every single time, which makes it even more confusing.
So now I’m wondering:
Is there a specific setting I might have turned off without realizing? Does Rest Mode stop supplying power after a certain amount of time? Or could this be a controller or hardware issue?
Would really appreciate hearing if anyone else has dealt with this and what ended up fixing it. It’s not a huge problem, but it’s definitely annoying when I sit down to play and my controller is dead
