Realistically, would my BICSI 1 Installer cert help me get hired at a DC without DC specific experience? (Other tech experience though) Any advice? DFW area.

Hey all, thanks for reading. I’ve been with a big box security company a little over four years. I’ve learned a ton, and love the hands on tech side. I’ve been taking side jobs from customers for AV work, home networking, and cleaning up their network cabinets. About six months back I decided I need a change, and like the idea of DC work as a career. Eventually I found out about the BICSI courses; I bit the bullet and paid out of pocket for the intro one, BICSI Installer 1. I’m currently almost done with my week long live course. Should pass the hands on test tomorrow, will study and take the written exam and be certified in 2-4 weeks. I honestly feel like I’ve learned a ton already, and want to put it in to practice.

Does anyone have any experience using this knowledge, working with someone who does, or being a lead/hiring manager and considering applicants with it? I have no actual DC experience, but my current skills are fairly adjacent. I believe the knowledge from this cert will help a lot as well.

I had a recruiter reach out Tuesday, and for the first time ever has asked for a follow up and more info from me for consideration for a DC role. I believe it’s focused around the cert, and my new knowledge I was able to answer questions with.

Any advice for me? I’m hoping I didn’t waste my money, but didn’t see a better alternative to break into this field.

Thanks again, be safe friends
