RDR1 : "you don't have time to set up camp now." Game won't save.

I think the game thinks I am in a mission. I am able to free roam. I cannot set up camp or sleep at hideouts. Game doesn't auto save anyhow way it should.

It happened when I went to clear soloman's folly. The yellow dot appeared but I ignored and did some hunting and wandering around then when I reached S. F. I saw the marshall and some dialogue but he won't ask me to help him. So I went ahead and cleared it anyway, searched folly's for chest and tailor piece, cracked open the stolen safe and left. After that I am unable to save.

Has anyone else faced this ?
