I’m building a patio using pavers and gravel, and I have some level and drainage concerns.

At the start of the patio, there is about a 4-inch difference between the panel base and the surrounding ground level. At the end of the patio, this difference increases to about 6.5 inches. I intentionally dug deeper toward the end to create a slope for drainage, which is why there’s a 2.5-inch difference from one end to the other.

My pavers are 2 inches thick, so:

	•	At the beginning, the patio surface sits about 2 inches below ground level

	•	At the end, it sits about 4.5 inches below ground level

I’m currently using plastic edging that is 4.5 inches high. I plan to fill the inside (between the pavers) with gravel, but I’m unsure what to do with the area behind the edging, where there is a gap between the edging and the surrounding ground.

My questions:

	1.	Is 4.5-inch edging too tall for 2-inch pavers?

It seems high compared to the paver height.

	2.	If I switch to 2.5-inch edging, how should I handle the gap between the edging and the surrounding ground level?

	3.	Since my patio sits below the surrounding surface level,

will I have drainage issues or water pooling during rain?

Did I dig too deep? I need advice on my patio
