Breaking into someone’s house should be illegal

I genuinely don’t understand why this is even remotely controversial in some discussions, but here we are.

If you break into someone’s home uninvited, without permission, you are violating one of the most basic boundaries a person has. A home is quite literally the one place where people expect privacy and safety. Crossing that line isn’t just “trespassing” or some minor offense—it’s a direct threat to someone’s security.

I’ve seen arguments trying to justify or soften this depending on circumstances, but the baseline should be simple: breaking into someone’s house should always be illegal, full stop.

There can be nuance in sentencing or context (emergencies, survival situations, etc.), but the act itself shouldn’t be normalized, excused, or treated as anything less than a serious violation.

If people can’t feel safe in their own homes, what exactly are we protecting?

Curious why this even needs to be debated.
