Take a big paycut to move to fire alarm tech?
I'm a little torn right now and wanted some outside opinions.
I recently got my jman card and am making $42 doing commercial new construction. I don't mind it but it's not something I want to be doing for the rest of my life. Get decent benefits from my company but no PTO, vehicle or tools. A posting came up for a junior fire alarm tech that I applied for and after speaking to their recruiter it looks like I'd start back around $28 with potential raises every 6 or so months and it would take about 4-5 years to make it back up to the $40 range. However, Id get a company truck, 3 weeks starting PTO and be provided tools. Everything says it's a no brainer but the thought of losing $2000 a month just after I started making it is giving me second thoughts. Im a single dad with a mortgage and other debts Im trying to pay off so getting my jman pay boost was really helpful in that regard and not having that extra wiggle room is kinda what's weighing on my mind right now.
Just need some sage advice from people.
