References Checked and I still didnt get the job

What the actual eff is this market? I applied to a job and got an interview, then a team interview, they then asked for references and now its silent. All references filled out the form the same day it was requested. 9 days later and I haven't heard back. HR said it's the hiring manager who would contact - I reached out and they did not respond. I checked my status online - it went from References Requested back to Under Review (which was the first step). Just wanted to vent, I know people have been through worse. I want to scream. When will the robots take over and put us out of this hell?
