Hi everyone,

I wanted to make a quick follow-up to a post I made here recently. I had asked whether people would feel comfortable being friends with, or even marrying, someone like me who has noticeable tics and leg/arm spasms.

Unfortunately, my account got permanently banned shortly after. At first, I was able to reply to a few comments, but then it got banned and I couldn’t answer anyone anymore. I just want to say thank you to everyone who took the time to reply — I really appreciated it, even if I couldn’t respond.

I’ve posted again here with a similar picture as in my previous post, just so people can recognize that it’s really me and not someone else. If you saw my earlier post, you’ll probably recognize me.

I also wanted to ask another question, a bit different this time:

What is your relationship with religion as young people in Morocco, and how important is it in your daily life?

I know religion is something very personal and spiritual, and not everyone feels comfortable talking about it. I completely respect that.

To give some context about myself: I grew up with a Catholic Italian mother who is very devout, and she raised me and my siblings with Christian values. My father comes from a practicing Muslim family, but he wasn’t very religious when he was younger and now he’s not religious at all.

So overall, we mostly grew up in a Christian environment. At some point, I started questioning Christianity and its logic, even though I initially wanted to get baptized. This led me to become curious about Islam, and I even influenced my brother to look into it — he eventually reverted and is now a practicing Muslim (he prays, fasts, gives zakat and sadaqah, reads Quran, etc.).

As for me, I explored Islam briefly, but at the time I didn’t feel a strong connection and ended up developing some doubts and even some prejudice based on certain teachings I came across. From around 18 to 21, I would say I was more agnostic.

Now I’m 22, and things have changed again. My brother has helped clear many of my doubts and misconceptions, and both my sister and I have become genuinely interested in Islam and its teachings. We’re still researching and learning, but I feel like I’m getting closer — like I might eventually revert, as I find a lot of logic and objectivity in it.

At first, my parents reacted negatively to our interest in Islam, especially regarding my brother (his name is Jamel), but alhamdulillah they’ve become more open and accepting over time. I’ve even helped clear some misconceptions my father had, although he still has some personal struggles with religion.

I hope I’m not sharing too much — I just felt like giving context might help explain where I’m coming from.

Also, as I mentioned before, I grew up mostly between home and school (Italian home, French school), so I didn’t really experience what I would call “real” Moroccan society. Because of that, I feel like I don’t fully understand how religion is lived and perceived here, especially among young people.

So I’d really appreciate hearing your perspectives.

And please let me know if this is a sensitive or delicate topic in Morocco, and if it’s something that shouldn’t be asked openly — I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable.

Thanks a lot in advance 🙏

Also I wanted to share my Moroccan moustache in the second pic just to flex 😭 + a pic of me and my Catholic mom ❤️ + a pic with my taghiya
