Tips on Moving to NYC from out of state

hey everyone I just wanted to ask you how and what did you do to relocate to nyc from out of state? did you find a job in nyc first and then relocate? or did you find a room first with some savings and then find a job once you got there? I would like some advice because it’s been sitting on my spirit for a few years to take the leap and follow my heart to relocate. I just don’t want to watch more and more years of my life go by without me knowing what it could’ve been if I had just done it and gave it a shot. but I also want to be smart snd strategic about it so I can make the most out of my experience and actually enjoy it. and I know there are a LOT of negative Nancy’s on here with a lot of opinions on the state of nyc right now and transplants from the Midwest coming into the city, I’ve seen the comments and heard a lot. but honestly I just want to hear honest and genuine advice on how to go about it.
