I made a "Breakup Hall Pass" for my friends who are tired of making excuses
Hey everyone!
I’m a designer/shop owner and I wanted to share something I recently put together. I’ve noticed a recurring theme with my friends going through breakups: the "guilt" of being a bad friend because they just don't have the mental capacity to be social.
We’ve all seen the standard "sorry for your loss" cards, but they always felt a little too formal or heavy for the daily struggle of just trying to function while your heart is a mess.
So, I made these "Still Processing My Ex" cards.
The idea is that it’s a physical "hall pass" you can give a friend (or yourself) to keep in a wallet. It’s meant to be a tongue-in-cheek way to say: "Hey, I’m not being a jerk, I’m just currently out of commission."
It covers the essentials:
• Canceling plans last minute.
• Ignoring texts for three days.
• Ghosting the party because a certain song played.
I wanted it to feel like a real, high-quality card so it actually feels like a "valid" permit for taking a break.
I’m honestly just curious: if you were going through it right now (or have a friend who is), is this the kind of "tough love" humor that helps, or is it too soon? I’m trying to make stuff that actually acknowledges how messy healing is without being overly sappy.
Would love to hear your thoughts or if there’s anything else that belongs on a "Breakup Survival" list.
