GP Training: Preston/Chorley/District vs Central Manchester

Registrars & Training

Hello,

I’m an upcoming GPST1 who matched into Preston, relocating from Wales.

I mainly wanted to go there because I have friends there and it’s less than an hour away from Manchester. I started looking online to see previous trainees feedback and it seems conflicting.

I want to prioritise a good hospital in a lively place with access to research and academia. I’ve heard some horrid things about central Manchester hospitals in terms of workload so I wanted to get more information.

So to summarise if anybody has been to either trusts and can give advice on the following that would be helpful:

- Standard of living/ entertainment/things to do

- Rent and transportation

- Quality of the training programme

- Access to university opportunities/academia/research

- Supportive hospital

- Workload

Would appreciate answers and resources if possible!
