Need to rehome Green-cheek from Boston, MA
Looking for a new home for my green-cheeked conure. We live in Boston. We’ve decided he’s a bit more than we can handle right now, mostly because he really doesn’t do well staying in his cage. He needs to be out and active, otherwise he’ll scream, and with everyone being so busy, we just can’t give him the time and attention he needs. Because of that, we think it would be best for him to go to a home with other green-cheek conures. (If you know where else I can post, let me know. I tried a Facebook group so far before reddit.)
About him:
•He’ll be 5 years old on July 2nd
•He’s been with our family since he was about 3 months old, always in the same home
•He loves scratches and cuddling
•When he wants to nap, he’ll hop into your shirt and sleep there
•He enjoys being around people, unless he’s busy exploring dark spaces like drawers (mating behavior)
Personality & habits:
•He loves food and will try to eat whatever you’re eating
•Favorite snacks: almonds, bread, rice (and sugar if he manages to steal some)
•Likes taking baths in the sink occasionally
•Has a love/hate relationship with feet—quick movements can set him off, but he’ll also cuddle with them sometimes
Behavior:
•He generally doesn’t bite people he trusts
•If he does bite, he can be trained out of it with consistency (being stern or putting him back in the cage)
•He has held grudges in the past, but warms up with patience, food, and trust
We want to make sure he goes to a good, suitable home. A home with other conures or even a dedicated bird room would be ideal. He needs a lot of attention—it’s basically a full-time commitment. If you don’t have other birds, that’s okay, but you should be prepared for a companion bird that’s really only in the cage for sleeping and wants to be out most of the day.
