Long-time GR1 21L user looking for a better EDC option

I’ve had an OG GORUCK GR1 21L for 10 years (which I bought used) and it’s been a great bag, but I’m starting to feel like it is getting too "used": straps are not as comfortable as they used to be, shape is deformed, etc

What I love:

• full clamshell opening
• super easy to pack
• simple interior
• durable as hell

What I don’t love:

• feels heavy for everyday carry
• old 1000D is rough, especially in summer
• can be annoying on shirts / hot weather

I’ve looked at the newer GR1 500D and GR1 X-Pac, but I’m also considering moving away from GORUCK completely.

My biggest priority is keeping that easy packing / wide opening / simple layout that the GR1 does so well. Main use is commute to office, traveling (external laptop compartment is a must)

For people who have used a GR1:

• did you stick with GORUCK and just change materials?
• or did you find a better EDC replacement?

Looking for something around 21–26L. Should be possible to find in Europe
