What's your Good Friday testimony?
Every year on Good Friday, I've thought about Jesus on the cross. His death for our sins - for my sins - is convicting and healing.
But this year I've been thinking about everyone around Jesus. Analyzing their reactions to the cross has affected me because it's more approachable. I can't die on the cross! But when I look at the religious leaders, Pilate, the soldiers, the women, the disciples... it becomes more real.
The religious leaders aren't even watching. They get rid of Jesus and get back to business.
Pilate solves a political problem and takes a break.
The soldiers are doing their jobs. It's cruel, but it's routine.
Then there are the disciples.... they see Jesus die, and then they spend the rest of their lives telling everyone they know that Jesus is God.
I wrote a longer reflection walking through one of these scenes, from John 19, if you want to get into the details with me.
But I wanted to talk about this, too.
My questions for you:
- Which characters at the cross do you identify with?
- Whose testimony about Jesus made it real for you?
- What's your one sentence testimony about Jesus?
