Do you consider patient communication part of informatics, or just something separate?

❓ Help / Advice

This might be a random thought, but it’s been on my mind lately. We spend so much time talking about EHR systems, data flow, interoperability, all that… but a lot of real-world care still depends on simple things like calls, follow-ups, messages back and forth. And honestly, that part doesn’t always feel as structured as everything else. Like, you can have a solid system on paper, but if communication itself is messy, things still fall apart, missed info, delays, confusion, etc. I’ve been paying more attention to that side of things recently, just trying to clean it up a bit from a workflow standpoint. Nothing fancy, just small changes like separating communication instead of running everything through one line. I’ve been testing something like iPlum for that, but more just as part of figuring things out. Not even saying that’s the answer, still experimenting. Just curious how others here think about it. Do you see communication as part of the informatics layer, or more like something outside of it that we just work around?
