Who else is better at 3d platformers than 2d platformers?

despite growing up in the 8bit and 16bit era, I've never been that good at 2d side scrolling platformers. the only 2d Mario game I've ever beaten was Mario Wonder. every time I go back and play old 2d platformers, I die a lot. you would think that adding an extra dimension to a video game would make it harder, and sure, it often requires more button inputs, it just clicks with my brain
