Dealer holding onto the new car after payment to perform “software update” but not providing any SCs or service report
Hello! My first post here 🙂
Yesterday, I switched from my 4 years old first EV VW ID4 Pro S to Kia EV9 Wind AWD in Bay Area, California. I signed the lease and paid drive-out fees including first month’s lease. After I paid and while we were in the middle of signing with the finance manager, sales rep came and said they need to keep my car for a few more hours to “update the software”. I had to leave so I requested a loaner to use while they are finalizing it with the understanding that I would be able to pick it up before the end of the day. After I left, it turned into “should be ready by tomorrow afternoon”. I requested a service report listing all the Software Campaings being performed, showing that full 12V battery test passed after flashing the software as draining is a common issue with these models. Sales rep stopped responding via text after this question and didn’t pick up my call. I emailed the sales manager yesterday since I don’t have the sales rep’s email address, but haven’t received a response from him either.
I always buy my cars new and never experienced a time I didn’t get to leave with my car or it required service immediately. Is this normal with new Kia EV9 sales?
I am still not in possession of the vehicle. Please share your experience and views whether this could be a major red flag or something Kia routinely does.
Thanks!
