How To Respond to SILs

Long story short, my husband and his family (siblings-both of his parents are deceased) have been problematic from the get go. We don’t live in the same state as his sisters, thank God.

For background info, SIL #1 was all over me when I was pregnant with my daughter and wanted to be involved. That is just like “them”, as they worship their family, at least the ones who are blood relatives, and all of the women in that family diss and look down on IL women who married into that family. Based on the history I had had with this SIL there was no way in hell I wanted her to have anything to do with me and my daughter during the most intimate time, which was bringing her home. She kept on and kept on about it. Of course my husband didn’t handle her like he should have, which left me in a shitty position of telling her no. When I told her no, she was nasty.

The background info for SIL #2 is she too has a history of being a snide, passive aggressive bitch. Examples include when I hosted the lot of them in our home (about 25 IL’s…) for a combined birthday party for my husband and HER, she made a very snide comment about me having the main course catered being expensive. The worst offense from her was when she emailed my husband the day before my daughter was born, and she told him she hopes our daughter looks like my husband and their mother. I just can’t get over that.

My daughter is grown now and is fairly newly an adult. I have done 99% of the work raising her, and to be honest, I think his sisters know that. My daughter has been around them two or three times in her life-that’s it. We went to a family gathering of theirs when she was four and eleven years old. The two sisters came to an event of my daughter’s when she was 11. That is it, with the exception of social media, and social media posts are my issue…

Recently I have posted a success story about my daughter that is 100% between me and my daughter. My husband was not involved. SIL#2 comments that me and her brother did a fine job of what led to my daughter’s achievement. I didn’t want any drama on my page from her, but her giving my husband credit for something he had no part in ticked me off. It was demoralizing, and she had some balls doing that.

Now all of a sudden, that same SIL is commenting on my daughter’s social media posts to encourage her as if she has been a part of my daughter’s life. That too has rubbed me the wrong way. I find it odd, yet just like her to do that. It’s like a dog peeing on what is perceived to be its territory.

SIL# 1 recently started following my daughter on her social media, but she doesn’t interact with her as far as I can tell.

My question is how to handle SIL#2 on my page when she posts things like she did. Both of them have suddenly crawled out of the woodpile, it seems like.

For reference, it wasn’t up to me to avoid them all of these years, so it’s not like I kept my daughter from them. That was always left up to my husband, but I am very glad we didn’t spend much time around them as I would not have tolerated subjecting my daughter to them insulting and disrespecting me.
