Should I be asking about pay?

I’m currently doing SPD for my CST program . However ,I spoke to the head person over the SPD program and asked them if I could work during the summer break to get more hours for my SPD certification for 17 days. she agreed however she did not say anything about pay and I know this is outside of my school hours, so should I be asking about pay? Or would it be volunteering ?
