Breast reduction vs double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery

Advice (NO MEDICAL ADVICE)

Hi, has anyone chosen a breast reduction over a mastectomy?

Are you happy with your choice, have you had any issues, and what helped you come to your decision?

I have wanted a breast reduction since I was a teen (thin frame with 36C’s), been in the works of discussing breast reduction for quite a few years and recently did genetic testing with my oncologist and found I am pretty high risk of breast cancer. So, my surgeons office asked if I would prefer the double with reconstructive. I personally do not want anything foreign in my body (overall but also have multiple autoimmune/inflammatory conditions that I just don’t feel like would be worth the risk when I already feel like crap from flares as is). I would like a little bit of breast tissue left - happy with a A or a small B, if possible - have gained a decent amount of weight so breast are quite a bit larger now, unsure of accurate size now. (I had lost the 60# in 2024 but breast were larger than before and now have some sag as well, which just adds to the pain and discomfort. I’ve since gained that 60# again and much more larger than prior weight gain.)

Scheduled to discuss these further with surgeon, but would appreciate input from others that have been in a similar ‘decision to be made situation’ regarding their choice and outcome, happiness with choice?

Thank you in advance.
