Standard or Pauper for budget FNM?

My LGS does standard and pauper tables (modern too, but I’m not interested) for FNM and I’m wondering which is a better option for a more budget player (think <$100 deck)? I play EDH but their commander night doesn’t fit my schedule.

I’m not trying to win every game or tournament grind, just want to show up and play weekly without getting smacked around every game.
