I strained my shoulder doing cable lateral raises. Did I do something wrong?

about me:

started going to the gym about 5 months ago

I've been doing cable lateral raises. i use the cable in such a way that the handle is at my hand height. about 8 days ago I think I did too much weight. my usual weight I could do 10+ reps so I increased it by one plate and could barely do 4.

as per my understanding the shoulder being in a stretched position across the front of my body and under load is what caused the strain to happen.

it's gotten better now but it's still there. yesterday I did shoulders again and did only one set of lateral cable raises with very low weight because it was aggravating the strain. dumbbell raises were fine. face pulls were fine. felt something at the top of shoulder press. felt uncomfortable when doing rear delt fly machine.

...

So. my question is am I doing something wrong with the cable raises? i thought being stretched was a good thing? was the weight too much? 10+ reps seem like I should increase the weight shouldn't I?

this is kind of what I've been doing

should I stick to regular dumbbell raises?
