(Jujutsu Kaisen) Can Yuta stop larping

This is going to be a really stupid post but I got to get this off my chest because I've seen nobody else talk about this. Yuta’s “True Love” gimmick makes no sense.

He's introduced with this sort of Jekyll and Hyde relationship with Rika, where he has this yandere curse that's quick to kill anything posing a threat to him. He kind of cares about her but it's kind of like how George cares about Lennie in Of Mice and Men. He's carting her around because he has to and because he cursed her. Still, the time eventually comes to fight Geto and to get more power he promises to die and go to the afterlife with Rika. He makes the binding vow, puts the wedding ring on and shoots a kamehameha at Geto. I find it a bit disingenuous for him to say shit like “Our love is pure™” when his relationship with Rika was evidently not mutual and the story did nothing to legitimize it in any way shape or form. I mean for god’s sake neither party is actually consenting to it. Rika’s soul was cursed against her will and Yuta can’t do anything to get rid of her. Gege acts like they’re Romeo and Juliet but they’re more like a middle aged couple who hate each other but are trying to stay together for the kids. Alas, a dub is a dub, and Geto is defeated by Huey Lewis and the News. Of course this binding vow doesn’t kill Yuta and instead it frees Rika’s soul ^wowiloveitwhenstorieshavenoconsequences^.

Sloppy writing but this sequence takes place over like 5 minutes, I can excuse it. Even though Rika is gone, however, Gege realizing that he gave Yuta no depth or personality decides to bring back Rika after realizing the only substance he had was his relationship with Rika even if it was half baked. And so somehow after being exorcised, Rika left Yuta a clone that can use the powers of her former incarnation and has 1:1 copied her personality. This is really stupid and makes no sense but it’s actually pretty par for the course when it comes to Gary Stus. Anyways even though it’s a literal soulless corpse and Yuta has apparently “moved on” he still acts like he does at the end of JJK0. He still wears the wedding ring, he stills spouts bullshit about how pure his love is, and he named his domain I shit you not, >! “Authentic Mutual Love” !<. Rika’s gone and has been so for a year and still Yuta decided to name his domain after the soulless rotting corpse of a dead child he’s carrying around. Why is he still larping that he’s just so fucking enamored with Rika, she’s clearly just a tool for combat at this point???

And of course in Modulo we learned that Yuta would go on to marry Maki and get her pregnant, further undermining his performative bullshit ^(he definitely gave her rikas ring lmao)^. !< I’m obviously not surprised by this, Yuta and Rika never had a real relationship. The thing that annoyed me is that Gege acted like they did. Yuta had zero personality and the only reason Rika existed was to give Yuta an aesthetic. That’s why Yuta has to be portrayed as some sort of hopeless romantic even when it no longer made any sense. ABSOLUTE BUM.
