I have a terrible confession to make and you'll hate me for it.
TRIGGER WARNING. Don't read this if you have any kind of trauma or are sensitive.
I didn't select a trigger warning as the flair because I don't think any of them are specific enough. I advise you to stop reading past this point if you think this might apply to you.
Alright, here goes:
Actually, before I get to it, I don't believe in gendering just about anything, so this is definitely not a gender issue on my part and I condemn people with double standards who see it as such because I believe there's no excuse for acting like gender is relevant at all. I treat everyone equally regardless of innate characteristics which cannot be controlled. With that out of the way, basically, I'm really sorry, and believe it or not, I sympathize, I really, really do, but I'm afraid I can't agree with the general consensus that I often see on Reddit (and it's probably not just a Reddit thing) that when someone has a history of alcohol abuse to the point of passing out in a somewhat public place and not remembering anything from that period, and as a result, becoming a victim of whichever crime (which absolutely does not lessen, let alone excuse the disgusting and unacceptable crime), you must be 100% okay with that revelation, otherwise you're a horrible person with zero empathy. Look, I understand where they come from and I appreciate that they mean well, so I can't say I entirely disagree or that they're wrong, but the problem for me is that the idea of getting drunk is a proper horror movie concept and personally, I simply cannot comprehend why on earth someone would feel like it's a good idea to drink something that alters your behavior in a way that makes you act recklessly and without much control over what you say and do and that causes you to lose memory of recent events. That's just a terrifying concept to me and I find it too reckless to be okay with it. I get that people just want to have fun and don't have any negative thoughts, but yeah, I feel how I feel about it (which doesn't mean you should feel bad about doing it if that's what you do because this is just my opinion) and I'm not a hypocrite about it since I've never even tried alcohol or any other such substances and have no desire to do so, not because of religious reasons at all or anything like that since I'm actually very much left-wing in just about every (other?) way.
Sorry again.
