Off Campus icons
I graduated from NC State in the last 5 yeste and was recently thinking about how different our “bar/restaurant scene” feels compared to other schools large schools.
I feel like a lot of the places my friends and I loved on Hillsborough didn’t last very long—and even when we were in school, it didn’t feel like there were many true “institutions” that had been around forever. A lot of the glenwood options still are there, but none of them feel iconic enough or like they have a particularly special vibe… When I was at State, East Village closed before i was 21, Mitch’s wasn’t open, of course PR is good but always felt like a chill/family place. In terms of glenwood, i turned 21 around the time teets, the village, and pine state basement were all new and hot spots.
For those of you who went to NC State (recently or a while ago), I’m curious:
- What places were the go-tos when you were in school?
-what places can you think of that have lasted?
- Do you feel like there are fewer long standing spots compared to other schools?
i’m thinking of places like he’s not here, sup dogs, champs, the library… etc.
I know being in a city with so much development changes things, but obviously we need to get some places that can define state!
