Do places give horrible contracts to buy time?

Are fake/insane contracts a thing to introduce more time for them to recruit someone else?

I’m a physician who really pushed the comp for a job. Got a lot of run around and finally pressured them some and they gave me a formal offer. The contract has a lot of literal garbage in it. Just insane. I’m working on negotiations. What‘a weird is the recruiter told me “I need to be patient about the negotiation timeline.” Am I being paranoid? Is this a thing? I’m worried they are trying to buy time to interview other candidates. If I happened to sign, they got an insane deal bc of an insane contract. win win for them
