My recruiting agency died in 2025. Clients stopped needing us. Here's the brutal reason why.
I ran Boglex for 7 years
Recruitment.. Outstaffing... Software development
Good team, good clients and a real revenue
And then one by one, the clients stopped renewing
We did'd do bad work
But they figured out how to do it without us
LinkedIn got better, job boards got cheaper, ai tools made sourcing faster
and suddenly a head of HR at a mid-size company could find three solid candidates on their own in a weekend (or a recruiter inside their org)
Why pay an agency?
We watched it happen in slow motion and had no answer for it, no action for it, we couldn't do anything
The market moved, but our value proposition didn't
I spent a long time being bitter about it
but I started asking a different question
Not 'why did they stop needing us'
i asked myself 'what were the agencies that survived doing differently?'
The answer was not what I expected
It was not that they were better at sourcing candidate, or that they had better candidates in their database
It was that they were reaching clients at a completely different moment than we did
Not after the client had already figured out their hiring process, and started the recruitment
Before
The moment a company announces a Series B, they need 20 hires they haven't planned for yet
The moment a head of HR posts that their current agency 'just isn't cutting it' are one conversation away from switching
The moment a founder posts "we're scaling fast, anyone recommend good hiring partners" that brief hasn't been sent to a single agency yet
those windows are short
24 hours sometimes
The agencies watching for those signals and reaching out the same day were having completely different conversations than everyone else, even us
Literally talking to the warm leads at the right time
they showed up at exactly the right moment with exactly the right context
I did not figure this out in time to save Boglex
But it is the entire reason I built Intentsly
It monitors those signals automatically on LinkedIn, scores them by how urgent and relevant they are, and tells you exactly who to reach out to and what to reference
The thing I wish I had 7 years ago
If you are running a recruitment agency right now and business development feels harder than it used to
it is probably not because you got worse at sales
The window to reach clients just got shorter
And most agencies are still using the same playbook from five years ago
Honest question for this community
Has anyone else felt the market shift in the last two or three years in terms of how clients find and choose agencies?
I am curious whether what killed Boglex was specific to our market or whether others are seeing the same thing.
