Question from a newb regarding seasons

Played the game for two weeks and also opted for FO1 monthly sub.

But what is the deal with seasons? Is it just theme? or is there actually story with main/side missions?

I have been playing alot of events but for over a week there has been no seasonal event (except the temporary Mothmans).

Sorry if it is a dumb question but just don't get it?
