What are your JRPG “green flags”?
Essentially, what are features (not necessarily gameplay features) that will immediately make you more interested in playing a game upon hearing that they are present?
Some quality-of-life features that I will always appreciate:
- Nothing is permanently missable, or at least nothing that contributes to completion/achievements is missable. Even if I don’t want to get 100% completion, it does put my mind at ease to know that I won’t have to choose between playing with a guide, having multiple save files, or risk permanently losing access to a certain ability just because I didn’t choose the correct dialogue choice at one point.
- Being able to save anywhere at anytime. This is pretty self-explanatory, it’s one of those kinds of QoL features that you can only really appreciate when playing games with sparse save points.
As for gameplay:
- Concerning games with customizable parties (such as class/skill composition), I will always welcome games that present a “change loadout and try again” option upon losing a fight. Bug Fables is one example of a game that has this feature.
