BSc Biomedical Science grad, 2+ years in BPO QA — any advice on getting back into my field or pivoting into something else?
A bit of background: I'm from Pakistan but was born and raised elsewhere, so I don't really have meaningful connections in either country that could help me navigate the corporate world. I have a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science from the University of Nottingham, and I've been working as a Quality Assurance Analyst in a content moderation project in Malaysia for the past 2+ years.
The reason I ended up in BPOs is because I spent a long time trying to break into my field and couldn't find anything that wasn't manufacturing or sales-adjacent. So I made the switch, and honestly the pay is decent — better than what I would've been getting in biomedical at the time.
But I genuinely miss it. Specifically the research side of things, lab reports, that kind of work. At the same time, financial stability matters to me, so I'm not looking to take a huge step backwards just to get back into the field.
I've also tried picking up other things on the side — project management, UX design — but it always feels aimless, like I'm studying without a clear direction or end goal.
I'm someone who genuinely enjoys learning, so I'm open to anything, whether that's finding a realistic path back into biomedical, or a pivot that actually makes sense given my background in QA, process improvement, and operations.
Has anyone been in a similar spot? What actually helped you move forward?
