Suspicious "DuckDuckGo Personal Information Removal" permission request
pop-up on my Mac that asked, "Allow 'DuckDuckGo Personal Information Removal' to find devices on local networks?"
Here's whats weird:
- I have the DuckDuckGo browser installed (latest version from the official site)
- I do not have DuckDuckGo Privacy Pro or any subscription
- I didn't knowingly install anything called "Personal Information Removal"
- I clicked "Don't Allow" but want to know if this is legit or malware masquerading as DDG
A few questions for the community:
-
Has anyone else seen this specific permission request recently?
-
Should "Personal Information Removal" ever appear as a standalone app/process outside the browser?
-
If you don't have a Privacy Pro subscription, should this feature even be able to request permissions?
-
Would this still happen if I did a free trial at some point in the past?
The local network permission seems especially strange for a feature that's supposed to process data locally on 1 device anyway.
