Day zero isn't what you think it is. The counter lie almost broke me.
The morning after a relapse, the counter says 0.
And your brain — already flooded with shame — reads that as: you are back at the beginning. Everything is lost. You made no progress.
This is neurologically false.
Your brain doesn't work like a counter. Every day of recovery — even the ones that ended in relapse — built something. Neural pathways were rewired. You learned something. You stayed clean longer than before.
"Day 0" is a useful tracking tool. It is a terrible measure of who you are or how far you've come.
The most dangerous thing about the counter isn't when it hits zero. It's what we tell ourselves it means.
How do you think about relapses? Does the counter help or hurt you mentally?
