We spent four nights at the newly renovated Aman Rosa Alpina at the beginning of February.  We were there to ski and relax before heading to Milan for the winter Olympics opening ceremonies and some events.

TL;DR: we loved it and would absolutely return. The service was, on average, fantastic (with one or two small hiccups, but those were clearly very junior/young servers still learning the ropes). Harry, the GM (previously GM of the Indian Aman properties, and a Rocco Forte before that), was out greeting guests every single day. We were asked our room number maybe twice the whole time, and never had to sign a single bill - small things that make a huge difference. The spa is lovely and was never crowded. The view from our room was storybook-level charming. We found all of the food to be good-to-great, and options in the area are solid. Skiing was, of course, a lot of fun.

Pre-arrival/service: We booked a few things in advance - a car from Venice airport to the hotel, alpine guides for skiing, and a helicopter from San Cassiano to Milan. All was easy enough and no hassle. Most people were new to the hotel because it was closed for so long that many folks had to leave for other work; with that in mind, the service was great. Lots of young folks working hard to make the experience comfortable and enjoyable.

Room: We were booked into a junior suite, which was spacious but otherwise not noteworthy in any way. Somewhat plain and could’ve been anywhere. We got to the room around 530p, showered, and headed up to dinner. After dinner my husband went and spoke with a manager, came back, and told me we  upgraded to a Premier Suite. About twice the price, but so worth it. Absolutely stunning view, super comfortable room, heated floors throughout. My one quibble is early in the morning when there’s fresh snow, you can hear the shovels echoing loudly around the village. I think the room change made a big difference in our perception of the hotel overall.

Area/Common spaces: We lobby/great room/“Il Salotto” is large but calm and warm with giant fireplaces and comfy seating. It was mostly too cold to use the big terrace outside but I’m sure in the warmer months that will be great to have.  The town itself is tiny but absolutely adorable and was not crowded at all. Very few Americans besides the two of us, which was great lol. It's not the easiest place in the world to get to, which I think filters out "convenience" travelers.
The spa was lovely. A dry sauna, a humid sauna, a steam room, and a cold plunge. Indoor and outdoor pools; the outdoor pool and hot tub were great in the cold weather. I cold plunged every day and loved it. You don’t need a spa service to use the spa amenities. We didn’t actually get any services but, if and when we return, I definitely will.

F&B: One of the stars of the show. The Grill (Italian) and Enju (Shabu Shabu/hot pot) were both fantastic meals with great service. Definitely recommend both. Breakfast is only served in the Heritage Room (or in-room) and was always a serene way to wake up. When we were there, lunch was only served in Il Salotto (basically the bar area/great room), and while the food was good, I wish they opened another space so it didn’t feel like we were eating in the hotel lobby. We did a private tasting of Barolo/Nebbiolo in the Di Vino room with one of their somms (shoutout Ricardo!); also a great experience and if you’re into Italian wine, highly recommend.

Cons/things to consider: We weren’t a big fan of the live music each night; in theory if it had been nice soft jazz or even classical piano or something chill, it would’ve been amazing; but it was almost always just cheesy American pop covers and the vibes did not match the environment lol. But after many, many visits to very nice places in Italy - this is kind of “a thing.” Lol. Maybe we just had bad luck with the musicians they had those nights. As I mentioned lunch is only really available in the lobby bar area, though I’d guess that this will change because it’s a little odd. It’s a very quiet town overall, and I think most here will appreciate that; but if you’re looking for an après scene or something, it’s not really the place for it. The lobby is quite hushed, even when there’s live music.

To caveat, we are definitely the type of travelers that put a lot of stock in the room itself, so our decision to upgrade from the Junior Suite to the Premier Suite definitely biased our feeling about the property as a whole. The view every single morning was just so charming and unique, and we really loved the suite.

Final point to note - we met a lovely couple from the UK who'd been staying at the OG Rosa Alpina for many years, and this was their first stay since the renovation. As I'm sure some here will agree, they suggested it had lost a bit of its "soul," and I can definitely see that. We changed our room largely because the room we started with felt very "could be anywhere," as do many other parts of the hotel. But the comforts of the modern rooms,  the spa, F&B program, and service all made it overall, a great stay.
