Feel like I'm spinning in circles in this game and I can't figure out how I want to move forward... Looking for advice

So I kind of want to do things backwards in this game and the game doesn't let you. I know there are better skills and modes of transportation you get when progressing the game and I want them now for sure, but I don't want to unlock a boat load of pokemon or built habitats until I have these skills.

I also am conflicted with building up big time in the first area, and then having to go to four other areas to build there as well. I'm a main hub type of person and I know I won't completely re-develop the other areas that I don't choose. BUT, I have to go to do things in all these other areas to get to "end game" skills wise.

I can't figure out which area I want to spend most of my time in and work on building because of all the other areas.

is anyone else jammed up like this? or has figured out a way to pursue this kind of issue, I know I can't be the only one. it's kind of like a writer getting writers block..
