Built a travel planning tool after getting completely lost trying to plan a Muktsar → Goa trip. Here's what happened.

So last year my co-founder and I were trying to plan a trip from Muktsar (a small town in Punjab) to Goa.

You'd think this is simple. It is not.

You open MakeMyTrip shows you flights from Chandigarh or Delhi, doesn't tell you how to get there. You open IRCTC shows trains but has no idea about the flight leg. You open Google Maps gives you a driving route to Goa (it's 2,500 km, thanks Maps).

We spent 2 hours across 6 different tabs just figuring out the combination. Not booking. Just figuring out what options exist.

We're both from BITS Pilani. We got annoyed enough to build something.

tripspanner (Link in comment) you type where you're coming from and where you're going, it shows you every combination. Flights + trains + buses together, in one place. Covers pretty much every city in India (5000+, including the small ones like Muktsar).

It's completely free. We don't sell tickets, don't earn commission. Right now it's purely a planning tool.

Why I'm posting:

In the next few days we're adding something small but useful when you find a route you like, you'll be able to click directly to the IRCTC booking page for that train, or the airline's booking page for that flight. So instead of copy-pasting train numbers and figuring out which airline operates the route, it just takes you there.

It's a redirect, not in-app booking. Honest about that. We're figuring out proper integration eventually but wanted to ship something useful now rather than wait 3 months.

Would genuinely love to hear if this solves something for people here, or if there's something obvious we're missing. Roast welcome.

Few things it handles well:

  • Tier 2 / Tier 3 origin cities (the ones other tools pretend don't exist)
  • Showing you options you wouldn't think of (e.g. train to nearest airport, then fly)
  • No account needed, no email, just type and go

honestly not even sure if this is the right sub to post this mods feel free to remove if it doesn't fit. just thought some people here might find it useful since tier 2 city travel planning is genuinely painful
