Diagnosis stage with fluctuating TSH
I’ve been trying to get diagnosed and treated for what I believe is Hashimoto’s for a while now. I’m exhausted from fighting for care (public health care here are rather conservative) and also feeling like I’m being gas light by my own blood test. I would really appreciate perspectives from people who’ve been through this .
My history:
In 2023 my TPO antibodies came back at 151 and TgAB at 4,000. TSH was 2.51 at the time and FT3/FT4 were normal, so I was told to just monitor.
Fast forward to early 2026 , I was physically feeling very unwell and start having nerves pain. So I got a thyroid panel blood test privately (quicker than going to GP) and TPO had jumped to >400. TSH was 4.2 (just above range), FT3 and FT4 still normal but my FT4 is consistently at the very top of the range from all my previous blood tests. So I brought the test result to the GP explain my symptoms and she ask me to retest after 6 weeks at the clinic and will consider treatment if next blood test show elevated TSH. I have just did a new test yesterday and it came back at 2.3.. and I’m having an appointment next week with my GO.
Symptoms over 3 years:
- Periods of severe fatigue significantly impacting my life
- Hair loss (starting to show thinning patch)
- Dry skin
- Near-absent libido
- Electric shock like nerve pain in toes and finger tips
- Random knee swelling with redness and heat
- Random itchy rashes comes and go overnight
- Develop very painful stomachache that seems to be trigger by spicy food ?( didn’t happen before)
My questions:
- Does TSH fluctuating between 2.3 to 4.2 sound like typical Hashimoto’s flares to you?
- Has anyone been treated with normal or fluctuating TSH but high antibodies and clear symptoms?
- What should I ask for in my next GP appointment to get support on my symptoms ?
