Those of you who bought your first property in the last 3 years — what did it actually cost you?
I'm trying to build a realistic picture of what homeownership actually looks like before I pull the trigger. I make $60K now and plan to job-hop to ~$80K before buying. Looking at $300K–$400K homes in South/Central Jersey.
For those who've done it recently:
* What was the purchase price, and how much did you put down?
* How much did you spend out of pocket total (down payment + closing costs + anything else)?
* Did you get closing costs covered or rolled into the loan?
* Did you buy on a single income or qualify with multiple?
* What's your rough salary range and monthly mortgage payment?
* What was your strategy — stocks vs. HYSA for saving the down payment?
* What general area did you buy in?
• How's homeownership treating you financially — any regrets?
Any insight is appreciated!
