Holidays with ARFID
Hi y’all! Long time lurker, first time poster. I’m in the process of converting and I’m really struggling with the food aspect of the holidays. Everything is so centered around certain types of food and I have ARFID. That’s Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. It can stem from many things, but mine is trauma based. Basically, my brain won’t let me go at foods it sees as “unsafe”. That paired with being Autistic and having sensory issues with that food is a touchy subject.
I need advice on how I should approach this when invited to something like a Shabbat dinner or, like yesterday, a Seder. Also, most of my safe foods are chametz, so finding safe foods right now is a challenge. Should I just limit the ones I do eat so I can still observe the holiday or try to find kosher alternatives? Thanks for the advice! Shabbat Shalom!!
