When to give up on a suboptimal detachment/list?
I’m a beginner/intermediate competitive player (.500 WR across the 5 RTTs I have done).
Some of the top players in my local scene do very well with unconventional lists and I think that’s really cool + more fun than playing top meta detachments. I have tried to do the same, building an off-meta list that is still built/tuned with serious competition in mind.
It has been fun overall and my WR is still above 50% including practice games, but I have had several losses recently where neither I nor my opponent could point out any big mistakes or bad strategic decisions I made. It’s starting to feel like the list just doesn’t have the juice to win against decent opponents if I don’t play perfectly.
I know a really good player could pilot the list to success, but I’m not a really good player. Has anyone been in a similar situation or does anyone have advice on how to decide whether or not to go back to a more meta list?
